Beech Mountain: Dylan's Slight Obsession

Ellison began her Beech Mountain vacation down the mountain in Valle Crucis with Nana Nancy. The first 24 hours without Ellison were rough for Dylan. He cried, whined, and would not stop asking, "where's my Ellie?"  By day two, we were at Beech Mountain surrounded by family and caterpillars and for the most part Dylan had come to terms with being without Ellison.

The day Ellison was set to join us, Dylan and I went for a long walk to collect a bouquet of wild flowers for his sister.  At the end of the walk, we decided to cut up hill and take a short cut through our yard.  The rather steep climb ended up leading us to snails, slugs, and caterpillars.  After collecting a few snails, we were hooked for the remainder of our trip.  Every morning we would collect a few and watch them throughout the day.

Bugs are another funny thing on raising a boy.  Who ever thought I would be so quick to grab a slug and spend hours talking to it with my child.  I guess that's what they call "a Mother's Love".
Our first capture

We had a snail family for a while.

A cute booty shot.
Ellison was no so sure about our new hobby.

In our bug search, we discovered a bird's nest with 3 eggs on our back deck.
